i have been recently asked to set up this forum, so other parent/carers looking for advice and information can ask questions on here and hopefully get more than one reply to what they are seeking answers to. so please feel free and start different topics relating to autism.

many thanks

Hi

First of all I'm glad you are around, because, when you have a child with communication problems you often feel alone and that other parents are looking and judging you because your child behaves different. Can anyone tell me what kind of assessmets will they do on my 3 year old son when he gets his appointment for Rowan House

hi julie

i think you need to contact them and ask them what assessments they will be doing. they should by rights give you a sheet detailing what they will be doing or see the person who has referred you to rowan house, each child is different. ask how long will it take to get the appointment and how long will the process be, who will be involved.

many thanks for using the forum

Hi (not sure if I'm posting this in the right place?) but just wanted to say what an impressive looking website and the forum idea is a great way for parents and carers to access information when their time is restricted and they can't get to meetings.

Hi thanks

I will definately ask , when I get the appointment and take my son to it, but hopefully it won't take too long, a lady from C.L.A.S.S. is going to observing in two weeks at his nursery.

Hi

Had a meeting the other day , about Jamie's educational needs, he starts reception class in september, it's a bit scary, we are still struggling a little with the toilet training, but I'm sure he will get there. I got a letter from Rowan House today, and before they see my son they need to do another form which is called SOGS.  Is there any advice anyone can recomend with the toilet training, sometimes he's ok and 5 minutes later it's as though he has forgotten. Is it true that they are trying to keep Autistic children in mainstream schools because this is what I was informed of the other day, do you think it's a good thing? I'm a little unsure, but I will see how he goes....

hi julie take a look at the training/course's nas page on toilet training, if you do want to go book with the nas and tell them that jamie is on the diagnostic pathway.

many thanks
